Charlie Smallbone stands out amongst his contemporaries as one of the leading kitchen designers, celebrated for designing highly functional spaces to cook, live and entertain. His latest design collaboration is with deVOL for the Chelsea Flower Show has resulted in The Metallics Kitchen Collection which brings beautiful complexity to life, with no fear of experiment using nothing but the finest, most unusual, natural materials.
These kitchens are constructed with traditional design details such as aged brass pivot hinges, which are inspired by those seen on Victorian steel-framed windows, and minimal brass door frames finished with a delicate Georgian style cock-bead. The variety of fascia panels for the door and draw fronts in this new range is infinite, but Smallbone has started by using verdigris copper and black stained ash. This juxtaposition of material and colour creates kitchens that harness the beauty of the original medium whilst creating practical kitchens that exude style and elegance with hints of industrial features.
